Husband chopped wife into pieces, dumped parts in river: Police
A man has chopped his wife into pieces and dumped the parts in river for refusing to give him money in Shreepur upazila of Gazipur district, police said.
Deceased Sumi Akter, 27, was the wife of Md Mamun, 25, a resident of Borobari village in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur.
Police have detained Md Mamun in this connection
Gazipur Police Superintendent Shamsunnahar disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday.
At the briefing, the SP said Sumi saved Tk around 40,000 working at a garment factory. Mamun sought the money but she denied.
At night on August 8, Mamun made Sumi unconscious by mixing sedative with her food aims to realize money. At 1:00am, he strangulated her to death.
Later, he cut her body into pieces with a machete. He wrapped five pieces with polythene and kept drawer of dressing table and filled a bag with the rest parts.
Then, Mamun dumped the bag in the Shitalakshya river in Sinhasri area in Kapasia and went into hiding.
SP Samsunnahar also said police, in a drive, detained Mamun from Kabirpur area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka on Tuesday.
In interrogation, he gave primary details, confessing to the murder.
Body parts found in drawer were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital
Additional Superintendent of Gazipur Police Golam Sabur said they are trying to trace rest parts of the body in the river.
