![]() Flood damages 400 km of roads in Bogura The flood-hit roads have become unusable for transportation. District relief and rehabilitation office sources said 285 km earthen roads and 95 km paved roads were completely destroyed by the flood in Sonatala, Sariakandi, Dhunat and Shahjahanpur upazilas of the district. Meanwhile, local lawmaker Abdul Mannan has directed the authorities concerned to renovate the roads within next three months. This year's flood has damaged about 38 km roads of a municipality and seven union parishads in Sonatala Upazila of the district. On the face of strong current, the carpeting of the roads has been damaged and numerous potholes have been created. About one km paved road in Shahjahanpur Upazila has been damaged, and the situation in other upazilas is also the same. Assistant Engineer of Sariakandi Upazila Local Government Department Liakat Ali said about 26 km of paved road in the upazila was destroyed by flood water. Due to damage of five bridges and culverts, the connection with various parts of the upazila has been severed. Boat is now the only vehicle to move from one place to another. Assistant Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department in Gabtali Upazila Ripon Kumar Saha said about 36 km paved roads here have been damaged. Other upazilas in the district have suffered minor damage in comparison with this area, he added. |
