Woman dies, 2 missing as boat capsizes in Jamuna

A woman died and two others went missing as a boat capsized in the Jamuna river in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday afternoon.

Besides, six people, who received injuries in the boat capsize, were admitted to hospital.

Deceased Renu Begum, 55, hailed from Atra village in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district.

The missing are Javed Ali Tarafder, 62, husband of deceased Renu, and his co-villager police member Belal Hossain.

Mansur Nagar Union Parishad chairman Abdur Razzak said a boat sank in Chhinar Char area in the upazila due to strong current when it was heading towards Godarbag village in the upazila from Jamalpur's Sarishabari.

Soon after the incident, locals started rescue operation. They recovered the body of Renu and rescued six injured and admitted.

Kazipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Zahid Hasan Siddiqui said two people, including a cop, remained missing in the boat capsize.
