Minor missing after speed boat sinks in Padma

A minor boy went missing after a speed boat, carrying 19 passengers, capsized in the Padma River near Shimulia ferry ghat on Tuesday morning.

The boy was identified as Deen Islam Hossain, 8, son of Siddiqur Rahman of Mollar Hawla village in Kauarchar of Barishal.

A speed boat overturned because of strong wind while going to Kanthalbari terminal from Shimulia around 8.00am, said Md Aminul Islam, in-charge of Mawa River Police camp.





Other speed boats rescued 18 passengers but Deen Islan remained missing, Aminul said. Members of Bangladesh Army, Fire Service and River Police are scouring the river.

The eight-year-old, a grade three student, was going to his village home with his father Siddiqur Rahman and uncle Babul Hawlader from Dhaka.
