TANGAIL, Aug 8: The number of dengue patients is increasing in the district.
At least 35 people were admitted to various hospitals in last 24 hours. The total number of hospitalised dengue patients stands at 120 till now.
Caretaker of Tangail General Hospital Dr Narayan Chandra Saha said 15 dengue patients were newly admitted to the hospital on August 4. But as per the dengue fever register of the hospital, a total of 19 patients were admitted on that day.
The caretaker could not tell how many patients were discharged from the hospital or returned home after being completely healed.
Civil Surgeon Sharif Hossain Khan said two patients were admitted at Nagarpur and Sakhipur upazila health complexes. At least 15 dengue patients were also identified at Ghatail, he added.
Among these patients, three were sent to Dhaka for better treatment and the remaining 12 are now being treated at local private clinics, confirmed Ghatail Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Saifur Rahman.
Director of Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital Prodeep Kumar Roy said 12 more dengue patients have been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours, and 10 patients were released recently. Currently, 24 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, relatives of the patients said the patients often face serious trouble as there is no arrangement for dengue detection test at the government hospital. They are often being forced to move to the private hospitals for the detection. As a result, the patients' condition is worsening.
In addition, there are multiple patients under the same mosquito net in the same bed due to bed crisis at the hospital.
