Arrest warrant against Tarique, Fakhrul, 7 others
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Monday issued arrest warrant against BNP Acting Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 7 others in a criminal case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order after taking the complaint into cognizance which was filed by Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui.
The complainant AB Siddiqui in his complaint alleged that the accused issued death threat to the complainant and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The seven others are BNP leaders are Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP chairperson's advisor Aman Ullah Aman, suspended BUET teacher Hafizur Rahman Rana and Chhatra Dal leader Emdadul Haque Bhuiyan.
The plaintiff alleged that Hafizur Rahman Rana, an expelled teacher of BUET, sent him a letter on July 23 this year.
In the letter the teacher threatened the assassination of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, family members of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the plaintiff with Islamic State (IS) on August 15.
Referring to the letter, the complainant mentioned that the memorial complex of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be destroyed by bombing. It has been said that a new Bangladesh will be established under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
In this connection the complainant also filed a GD with Hatirjheel police Station seeking his life security. He filed the case under section 109 and 506 of the penal code.
