Taka 45-lakh saplings sold in Rajshahi tree fair
RAJSHAHI, July 30: More than 65,000 saplings of fruit, timber trees, medicinal and ornamental plants worth around Taka 45 lakh were sold in Rajshahi divisional tree fair.
Divisional Forest Officer Niamur Rahman revealed this while giving his welcome speech in the closing session of the fair on Monday.
Social Forestry Division (SFD) and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) jointly organized the 20-days long fair in association with district administration at Green Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the closing ceremony as the chief guest, stressed the need on extensive tree plantation to improve environment and biodiversity to make the region habitable for all.
"Expansion of the country's forest area up to 25 percent of the total landscape through extensive tree plantations will protect the country from adverse impact of climate change," said Liton.
