179 villages flooded in Bogura
BOGURA, July 26: Though the water of the Jamuna River decreased, it is flowing above danger level till now.
Meanwhile, the water in the Bangali River was flowing above danger level in Sariakandi Upazila of the district during the last few days. As a result, plenty of croplands got damaged on both sides of the river.
Sources at Water Development Board (WDB) in Bogura said the water of the Jamuna River decreased recently.
At least 179 villages of three flood-hit upazilas- Sonatola, Sariakandi and Dhunat, were flooded, and 23,000 hectares of cropland in the district are under water.
Deputy Commissioner Fayez Ahmed said at least 3,000 packets of dry food, 717 metric tons of rice and other food items worth Tk 11.50 lakh were distributed in the flood-hit villages.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Azahar Ali Mandal said 2,09,620 people of the district were hit by flood.
Executive Engineer of Bogura WDB Hasan Mahmud said the water of the Bangali River was flowing 98.70cm above danger level due to worsening of flood situation in Gaibandha. At least 77 primary schools and 12 high schools were declared closed, and about 3,000 families took shelter on flood control dam.
