Into The Dark

Into The Dark

VY-53 was a middle sized star, collapsed violently about one million years ago and created a stellar mass black hole which was just 50 kilometres across. After searching for a decade a rocky planet VY-53C was found with liquid surface water, orbiting the black hole VY-53.
Human race had colonized here about five hundred years ago. They built a complicated spherical shaped cover consisting of millions of triangular mirrors around the dead star and made a new source of energy in that solar system.
Mia was the chief engineer of the ground station. She looked after the structural integrity of their only source of energy Dyson sphere. She'd been working here for ten years. Here, everyone got job at early age. Mia got her job when she was only seventeen. Her great experience had made everyone trust her.
When everyone left, Mia turned to the other computer with couple of questions wandering in her mind. "Why those computers got fire? And what's wrong with those radiation rates? I can't remember those from the last mending... What are those all about?" she was talking to herself. She took another closer look to the telescope outcomes and this time she couldn't get relieved at all.
On the way back home, Mia drove a bit slower and tried to fly low, just to have a look of the ground. Dust storm sweeping over those gigantic craters created very extra terrestrial hallucination. It didn't feel very good to her. She turned around her gaze. "Some old, ragged planet with some poor miserable people", she sighed.
Around five hundred people lived here. With this little population on the one side of the northern hemisphere, this planet looked like a place for interstellar exile. But it wasn't like this in it's entire lifetime. There were cities with buildings, skyscrapers where everyone used to live. These cities were ten miles to the south. Fifty years ago when the first collapse had happened on the Dyson sphere, this planet had to face a climate change. Then in a year a new habitable place was found and ninety nine percent of the population who could manage the least amount of money got their new homes abroad. The average people didn't know why they had to leave this place in such a hurry. Only the poorest were left behind with this old dusty planet.
Mia felt very tired after returning home. She managed to close her door somehow and fell over her bed without changing her clothes.. Gentle breeze was touching soft grass, carrying fragrance of daffodils. It was whispering autumn's arrival. Butterflies were dancing from flowers to flowers. She was running with her eyes closed, following the breeze. She stopped before getting fallen into a lake, hearing a voice screaming at her, "Mia look out..". Mia woke up. She was having the same dream again.
"Good morning ", Lex entered the 'classified' room one hour later, after wandering everywhere sensing someone's presence . He was looking around with his mouth opened." Hey. Mia. What are you doing?"  Lex asked. Mia didn't reply. She was looking at the screen, sitting frozen on a chair. "Hey. I'm talking to you. What's going on there?" Lex came closer to her, put his wrist on her shoulder and bent his back to see the screen. He got his eyes stuck on the screen too.
