Priya Saha poses threat to peace and communal harmony
The media has become abuzz with a member of the Hindu community named Priya Saha, misrepresenting and misinterpreting the plight of the ethnic minorities in Bangladesh. Her Youtube video of the meeting with Trump subsequently went viral on social media. This video has triggered countrywide condemnation for the Hindu minority representative. However, she was seen identifying herself as a Bangladeshi national and telling the US President that 37 million people of several minority groups have disappeared from our country. She also complained that Muslim fundamentalists had grabbed her land. Concurrently she accused the government for giving shelter to those fundamentalist groups.
Undoubtedly, Saha was driven by an ulterior motive and her complaint is nothing but a bunch of blatant lies. However, her daughters are perusing higher studies in the US and it can be assumed that her attempt to defame her country and government may well be the primary attempt for seeking political assignment or apply under the category of residency in the 'country of opportunities'.
The point, however, Saha's controversial latest visit to the US merits the question who had selected her for representing the ethnic minorities of Bangladesh? What are her credentials? Why did she provide the US president with fake and phony information? And most importantly, while explaining herself, she has tried to justify her blatant lies by engaging the very prime minister of her country - where did she get such audacity?
Her explanation is not only self-contradictory but has confused the entire nation. Amazingly, in the face of such despicable act, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has disapproved of taking stern legal steps against Priya Saha of sedition charges ahead of obtaining her explanation about her comments. Reportedly a number of sedition charges filed against her have been rejected but we find it crucial to investigate what and who had led Priya Saha to globally damage her country's reputation.
Saha's contemptible act in the Whitehouse is enough to portray the country being ruled by an oppressive regime. We are in fact more shocked because of her sheer ingratitude shown towards a secular prime minister - who has done so much to ensure security and peaceful coexistence of all ethnic minorities, and especially Hindus.
Priya Saha's ulterior motive to demonise her country, we believe, is deep rooted? Certainly these so-called minority members are not alone. There are other state and non - state actors who have shaped her making. We call for an in-depth investigation to find out what had made her go against her country.
Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. No peace-loving and patriotic member of any community - including the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian has the right to injure that pluralistic fabric. Indeed, a number of minority members as Priya Saha are serving a sinister purpose of a 'Dark Force' that might severely disturb the peaceful communal harmony of Bangladesh. On that note - Priya Saha poses serious threat to peace and prosperity of the country.
