Punishment for rapists, killer demanded
Demanding exemplary punishment for the rapists and killers, Socialist Women Forum brought out protest procession and held a rally in the capital on Friday.
They said though incidents of killing and rape are taking place across the country, there is no strong effort to bring an end to that.
It is an example of the state's reluctance to ensure justice to the victims, said speakers at the rally held in front of National Press Club yesterday.
Violence against women and girls remains one of the most widespread human rights violations, they added.
Citing media reports, a large number of incidents of rape took place in the last six months across the country while the number of killing after rape, family violence, killing after harassment, violence against children and killing of children after harassment is 2083.
But the actual number is much higher.
Socialist Women Forum general secretary Shampa Basu presided over
where central organising secretary Dilruba Nuri conducted the programme.
