Construction of two Bangabandhu memorial ghats on in Gopalganj
GOPALGANJ, July 18: Two Bangabandhu memorial ghats- one beside the Madhumoti River in Patgati and another beside the Baghiyar River in Tungipara Upazila of the district are being made at Tk 13 crore.
Construction of the ghats will be completed in June of next year.
Tungipara Municipality has taken the initiative to build the ghats while Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the project.
When Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was alive, he used to land in Patgati Launch Ghat or Baghiyar Launch Ghat after arriving from Dhaka to Tungipara. When he got back to Dhaka, he again used these ghats and boarded steamer or launch.
Tk 9 crore for Patgati Ghat and Tk 4 crore for Baghiyar ghat will be spent.
The past and the present generations are happy as the ghats are being made.
Habibur Rahman, 85, and Jharna Biswas, 60, of Patgati Village, and Sheikh Samad and Sheikh Abdus Sattar, 54, of Tungipara Village said, after the independence they had seen Bangabandhu walk from these ghats. They were very young back then.
They said, the road was not this wide before. But they are happy as these ghats are being made.
Moreover, people who will come to visit the shrine of Bangabandhu can come here and know new things about him.
Tungipara Municipality Mayor Sheikh Ahmed Hossain Mirza said, new generation will know many things about Bangabandhu after the ghats are built. They have taken initiatives to preserve the memorable places of Tungipara.
Executive Engineer of Gopalganj LGED AK Fazlul Haque said, after the projects are complete, tourists will come to see these ghats where Bangabandhu had walked. People will also enjoy the beautiful view of the Madhumoti River. The businessmen of traditional Patgati Bazaar will use the ghat too.
