81,000 MT fish produced annually in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, July 18: About 81,000 metric tons of fish are produced in the district annually.
Rajshahi is in the 6th position in the country for producing more fish than the demand.
This information was given in a press conference organised to mark the National Fisheries Week-2019 on Wednesday.
District Fisheries Officer Alak Kumar Saha said in the press conference held at his office that the demand of fish in Rajshahi is 58,818.75 MT, but the production of fish is 80,899.795 MT, while 22,081 MT of fish are sent to other districts after meeting the local demand.
There are 41,876 ponds in Rajshahi. The size of these ponds is 7,294 hectares. There are 6,108 commercial farms on 3,462 ha of land. Besides, there are 48,531 water bodies on 39,252 ha of land.
Among others, Divisional Director of Fisheries Department Md Shamsuzzoha, Deputy Director Hasan Ferdous, and acting Deputy Commissioner Parvez Rayhan were also present in the conference.
