Building in old Dhaka collapses, one killed

A body recovered and another was believed to be trapped as an abandoned two-storey building collapsed at Patuatuli in Old Dhaka on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jahidul Bepari, a Fire Service and Civil Defence official. The victims was identified as  deceased  son Shafiqul Islam, 17. Both are banana traders.
Locals said though the building was abandoned, several banana traders had been residing on the 1st floor of the building and using the ground floor as godowns for the last several years.
Sources at the Fire Service Central Control Room said the rooftop of the building collapsed totally while ceiling of the 1st floor partially around 1:23 pm.
Being informed, three firefighting units rushed to the spot and started rescue operation, said duty officer Ershad.
Saidur Rahman officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station  told The daily Observer thathe heard from one acquaintance of the victims that Jahidul and Shafiqul remained missing since the incident. "We're verifying it and the fire fighters have already started rescue operation," he added.
