20 hurt in AL factional clash

Twenty people were injured in a clash between two factions of local Awami League (AL) in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj district on Tuesday morning, over establishing supremacy and a rape incident.
Locals said a dispute arose between Mollakandi UP incumbent chairman Mohsina Haque Kolpona and former chairman Mostafa Molla over rape of a housewife allegedly by father-in-law Tara Dewan, a resident of Beherkandi village under the union.
Following the dispute, the supporters of Kalpana Dewan carried out attack on Mostafa Molla's Kangsapura village home around 6:00am.
Later, the followers of Mostafa Molla, in retailiation, attacked the houses of Kalpana Dewan's supporters at Noadda, Lakshmidibi, Beherkandi-Dhhalikandi villages and fired gunshots.
Twenty people were injured, including four--Abu Sayeed, 56, Nur Uddin Sarker, 50, Solaiman Gazi, 28, and Akram Khan 32--received bullet-hit injuries, in the both incidents.
The bullet-hit wounded were sent to Dhaka Medical Collge Hospital (DMCH) while other injured admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital.
Sadar Police Station officer in-charge Anisur Rahman said police detained seven people from the spot in this connection.
All measures have been taken to bring the situation under control, the OC added.
