Sirajganj accident death toll rises to 12
The death toll from Monday's fatal collision between a train and a microbus in Sirajganj rose to 12 as another injured died at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Eleven people, including the bride and groom, were killed and six others injured when a train rammed into a microbus on an unattended rail crossing in Ullapara upazila on Monday evening. Witnesses said the Dhaka-bound ‘Padma Express’ dragged the microbus a kilometre following the crash.
The deceased was identified as Nirab, son of Montu Talukder, a resident of Kandapara village in Sadar upazila. He at a hospital in Dhaka at noon.
The district administration handed over the bodies of 11 people to the victims' families on Tuesday morning. They provided Tk 25,000 for each victim for burial.
However, district administration and Railway West Zone formed two separate probe committees to investigate the accident.
