![]() PM directs to stop buying Demu train The premier gave the direction at the Ecnec meeting held at the NEC Conference Room on Tuesday. In absence of planning minister, planning Secretary Md Nurul Amin briefed the reporters after the meeting. The Prime Minister has given the order after cancelling the project of purchasing six sets (1 set in 6 units) shuttle train on Dhaka-Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park route. In this connection, she suggested introducing a separate direct train from capital to the Hi-Tech Park. Railway sector has been in trouble since the start of Demu train imported from China. No initiative has yet been taken to repair the trains after damage. In 2016, a Tk 308 crore project was taken to construct a workshop to repair the Demu trains. But, the plan was, later, suspended amid criticism. Despite routine repair, the trains gradually are becoming unfit to run due to technical fault and lack of major overhauling that causes frequent suspension of commuter services. SU/LY |
