'Drug dealer' drowns during ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader drowned into the Padma River during a shootout with police in Rajshahi city early Tuesday.
Son of Mohonlal, the deceased was identified as Alamin, a resident Harpur under Kashiadanga Police Station.
Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said a team of law enforcers conducted a drive at Dam-5 of the Padma River around 3:30am.
Sensing their presence, the gang opened fire on the team, forcing the police to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Later, police recovered Alamin's body from the river.
Ruhul Kuddus suspect that Alamin might have drowned while fleeing.
Three policemen also injured during the gunfight.
Two bullets and 79 bottles of Phensidyl syrup were recovered from the spot, the police official said.
Alamin was accused in a several narcotics cases, he said.
