Gatco graft case hearing deferred to August 22
A special judge court of Dhaka on Monday deferred the hearing on charge framing in Gatco corruption case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 17 others to August 22.
Judge Abu Syed Dilzar Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court 3 deferred the date on Monday as the jail authority did not produce BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia before the court set up in front of Keraniganj Central Jail.
Defense lawyer Advocate Zia Uddin Zia pleaded for adjourning the hearing as his client was absent from the court.
In April, Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in Zia Orphanage and Charitable trust graft cases, was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for treatment.
On September 2, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against 13 people including Khaleda and her youngest son Arafat Rahman with the Tejgaon Police Station penning a contract with Global Agro Trade (Pvt) Co Ltd (Gatco) for container management at inland container depots in Dhaka and Chittagong.
