The leaders of the Jatiya Party's Rangpur unit on Tuesday announced to thwart any move to bury HM Ershad in the capital.
On Sunday, party senior leaders decided to bury the former military ruler at Military Graveyard in the capital.
Protesting the decision, Jatiya party's Rangpur and Rajshahi units held a joint meeting at the party's Rangpur city unit office on Monday noon.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Rangpur unit Jatiya Party president and Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa said they have decided to burry Ershad in Rangpur at any cost.
He said Ershad's body will be brought to Rangpur from Dhaka on Tuesday morning for a janaza. "If any evil effort is made to take back his body from Rangpur after the janaza, our leaders and activists will resist it even, if necessary at the cost blood."
Meanwhile, two more funeral prayers (namaz-e-janaza) of former President and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, who died on Sunday, were held at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and North Gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka on Monday.
In between the two namaz-e-janazas, his dead body was kept in front of Jatiya Party's Kakrail central office for around three hours, so that his party leaders and activists can pay tributes to their party chairman.
According to the party and Ershad's family sources, his body was sent again to the Combined Military Hospital Mortuary in Dhaka for keeping there for another night.
Ershad's body will be taken to Rangpur on Tuesday (today) for the last time. Another namaz-e-janaza will be held there at Rangpur Eidgah ground and taken back to Dhaka for burial. He will be buried at Army Graveyard in Dhaka Cantonment after Asr prayer on Tuesday.
