Govt opens control room to monitor flood situation

Shipping and Water Resources ministries have opened separate control rooms to monitor the overall flood situation and collect flood-related data.
People are requested to call the Water Resources Ministry’s control room dialing 029570028 to get flood related information like riverbank erosion and water level rise in rivers and inundation, said a ministry official, BSS reports.
“People are contacting to the control room and giving information. The ministry is taking necessary measures after examining the information through field level engineers of the Bangladesh Water Development Board,” said the official.
In addition, if anyone wants to know the flood forecast, the ministry has suggested pressing 5 after calling at 1090, which remains open round- the-clock.
The Ministry of Shipping also opened a control room to monitor the flood situation and monitor the current situation of movement of river transports.
The control room has been set up at the 9th floor of the secretariat’s building number 6 which remains open from 8am to 10pm every day.

Joint Secretary of the ministry Abdus Chattar Sheikh has been supervising the control room.
