Drug dealer killed in ‘gunfight'
A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early Sunday.
Deceased Mufid Alam, 39, was a resident of Noyapara area in the upazila. He was an accused of several cases, including drugs and arms, with different police stations in the district.
Earlier on Saturday night, police detained Mufid, and they along with him conducted a drive in Nayapara area near Naf River to seize a big consignment of Yaba.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Mufid’s cohorts opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Later, police found Mufid bullet-hit injured and took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Police also recovered 10 rounds of fresh cartridge of short gun and 5,000 Yaba tablets from the spot, Teknaf Police Station officer in-charge Pradip Kumar.
