Rabidas community want to be listed in ethnic group
BARISHAL, July 13: People of Rabidas community, a section of Dalit community, formed a human chain in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city on Friday, demanding their inclusion in ethnic group.
They demanded that steps should be taken to end all discriminations against them in social and professional activities. Rabidas Mancha, district unit, organised the human chain.
The speakers pointed out that the government has recently listed 50 marginal groups as ethnic but Rabidas community was excluded from the list.
The Dalit communities are facing serious discrimination in educational institutions, workplaces, social activities and cultural affairs.
As citizens of the country, Dalit people want to live with dignity like other communities, the speakers said.
They demanded formulation of law to eliminate social and job discriminations against the dalit people and ensure their civic rights.
Tapan Chandra Rabidas, president of Rabidas Mancha, central committee, presided over the programme while Ramesh Chandra Rabidas, Basanta Rabidas, Palash Rabidas, and local unit leaders also spoke in the programme.
