Multitalented artiste Shantanu Biswas passes away

Thespian Shantanu Biswas is no more. The veteran dramatist-cum-stage actor passed away on July 12 in the afternoon at a city hospital. He fell ill on July 9 at his residence in Chattogram and was admitted to a hospital there. As his condition deteriorated he was brought to Dhaka on July 11. He was aged 65 at the time of his death. The thespian has left his wife, two daughters and scores of well-wishers to mourn for him. Apart from his theatre activities he was also involved with music and business. He was the COO or Chief Operating Officer of Ispahani Group Ltd.
Shantanu was born in 1954 and started with his own Angan Theater in 1976 in Chattogram. He went on to write 'Kalo Golaper Desh-E' as his first drama. He has acted in his own dramas like Angan, Ganayan, Nabajanma, Informer and more. He last performed on June 28 at the Kalpurush Natya Utshob for his production 'Nirbhar' presented by Kalpurush Natya Sampraday. It might be added that he was the advisor of Kalpurush Natya Sampraday. Other dramas written and directed by him include- Daptari Raj Daptar-e, Bhabaghure, Julius Caesar-er Shesh Shat Din, Manush O Niyoti, Mrinaler Chithi and more. His drama Informer based on the Liberation War of 1971 has been staged multiple times at home and abroad. He also wrote a book on drama titled 'Nattyatrayi.'
Shantanu's musical contributions include about five albums. The first had him only as the composer. Released from ATN Music in 2007 the album had Subir Nandi and Kolkata's Indrani Sen as vocalists. His second album from Impress Audio Vision in 2008 was a joint one with Arunima Islam and third one from Agneebina in 2009 was also a joint one with Bappa Mazumder. His solo albums include Postman in 2012 and Kharkuta in 2014. In 2018 he also launched a book on music-'Gaaner Kabita-Kholapith.' He once claimed that he was the youngest musical artiste in the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War.
