Body formed to search MDs of state-owned banks
The Finance Ministry has set up a four-member search committee to find out appropriate candidates for appointment as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the state-owned commercial banks.
Md. Asadul Islam, Senior Secretary of Financial Institution Division (FID) has been appointed as convener and Rukhsana Hasin, a Join Secretary of the FID appointed as member secretary to the committee. The naming of two other members remained unfinished.
According to the Finance Ministry sources, the government will also appoint chairman and directors of the state-owned banks. The search committee will finalize three candidates for MDs for each bank and forward it to the government for approval.
After the appointment of MDs the finance ministry will constitute the banks' board of directors to give each of the bank new committee to run the banks.
According to the FID, MD’s post is vacant at Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank and Bangladesh Development Bank Limited. Besides, the post of MD will become vacant in most state-owned commercial banks by the end of August.
Meanwhile, the government has appointed BASIC Bank Managing Director Md Rafiqul Alam, which is another state-owned bank. But he did not join leaving the post vacant. Prior to the appointment, Rafiqul Alam was the managing director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnyan Bank, BASIC Bank said in a statement yesterday.
