Democracy isn't in crisis: Quader
Democracy in Bangladesh is not in crisis, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Thursday.
"The BNP has a shortage of democracy in the party," he said at Dhaka South Awami League members' meeting at the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
Quader wondered why the BNP was not launching any movement if it is capable of doing so. "The party has resorted to propaganda after its election debacle and failure to launch demonstration," he said. Quader also touched upon the issue of BNP chief Khaleda Zia's bail.
"She wasn't jailed by the Awami League. She's there for corruption and it's a legal issue. The BNP should follow legal procedure to free Khaleda Zia," he said.
The Awami League leader said the judiciary is independent and that the government never interferes with it, noting that it is not up to the government to free Khaleda.
