Int’l Clean Technology Fair held in city
‘Efforts on to expedite use of energy efficient technology’
The government is formulating business friendly policies and taking all necessary measures to expedite the use of sustainable technology in the country by popularizing energy efficient process in industries, said Md. Helal Uddin, Chairman of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).
He said this in at the opening of 2-day seminar on "International Clean Technology Fair" in the city. METABUILD, - a DCCI project funded by European Union kicked off at Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) Wednesday to facilitate discussion on the subject.
Member of SREDA Siddique Zobair senior Vice President of DCCI Waqar Ahmad Choudhury and Vice President Imran Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. DCCI Directors Kh. Rashedul Ahsan and Enamul Haque Patwary were also present.
Waqar Ahmad Choudhury said METABUILD project is working in 250 metal and steel industries to motivate them to use efficient cleaner production system by utilizing energy efficient resources. He said the objective of this project is to reduce waste emission and air pollution in industries and in construction sector.
He also said that if we are able to ensure energy efficiency in our industries, at least 25 per cent of existing consumption of energy can be saved.
Md. Helal Uddin said industries in our country have started using sustainable technology. Government is formulating business friendly policies and doing everything necessary to expedite the use of sustainable technology.
He said for ensuring energy security, we have to use cleaner sustainable technology in a planned manner. Through energy efficient technology, renewable energy, industrial waste management, metal industry process management, metering and data management cost of production can be reduced in industries. He called upon the entrepreneurs to invest for innovative technology.
Siddique Zobair said SREDA is promoting energy efficiency in industries. He said that development should be achieved in a sustainable manner. Not only cost saving is important, energy efficiency is needed to fight the climate change issues as well. SREDA wants to work with the business community to achieve the goal, he said.
Senior Technical Expert, METABUILD Rajat Batra said that this project is working in 250 industries here in Bangladesh. It is also in operation in Sri Lanka and Nepal. He said industries consume heavy energy for production, but there are more than 150 technology which can be used to reduce the energy consumption without hampering production.
