Green Line Paribahan on Monday got nine months time to pay in instalments the rest Tk 45 lakh compensation money to Russel Sarker, who lost left leg after a bus of the company ran over him last year.
The High Court (HC) bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and KM Kamrul Kader passed the order asking the transport company to pay Tk 5 lakh by the first seven day of every month and submit a report to the court by the 15th day of the month.
The court came up with the order while hearing a writ petition filed by the company in this regard.
At the beginning of the hearing, Green Line Paribahan's lawyer Md Oziullah prayed to the court to reduce the amount of Tk 50 lakh compensation and also sought the court's order to pay Russel through installments.
The Paribahan however did not mention any amount of the reduction money.
During the hearing, the court said it cannot change this order as it was upheld by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
"There's no scope to reduce the compensation money and it must be provided through installments," the court said.
The court also expressed dissatisfaction as the Green Line did not comply with its order by the time set by the court earlier. "Let's see how the government patronises a person who tries to violate the court order by resorting to trickery," it said.
A luxury coach of Green Line hit Russel's car from the behind as it stood stationary on the slope of Hanif Flyover on April 28 last year.
As Russel stepped out of the car to assess the damage, driver Kabir Hossain drove the bus over him and fled. Police later detained the bus and the driver.
Russel's left leg had to be amputated from the thigh down.
Earlier, Green Line Paribahan on April 10 paid Taka five lakh to Russel and was allowed one-month time to pay the remaining Taka 45 lakh fixed by the High Court.
But the transport company did not give any more money to poor Russel, as they come up with new excuses on each hearing date.
The High Court on May 15 ordered Green Line Paribahan to pay the money to Russel by May 22 as the transport company failed to comply with the High Court direction to give the money by that day.
Earlier on April 04, the High Court had extended time till April 10 for Green Line Paribahan to give Taka 50 lakh to Russel Sarker, or else not to sell any ticket from April 11.
