Four senior officials of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division and Palli Daridra Bimochan Foundation (PDBF), a micro-credit authority under the RDCD, have faced interrogation of the Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion for the charges of graft and irregularities brought against them.
The officers are RDCD Additional Secretary Afzal Hossain, PDBF Additional Director Aminul Islam, suspended additional director AAM Anwaruzzaman and deputy director Shafiul Islam.
Investigation officer Shahinara Momotaz Rekha, a Deputy Director of the anti-graft body, quizzed the officials following the allegations of irregularities, corruption and misuse of power, according to the ACC and PDBF sources.
Sources claimed they were quizzed for more than four hours. During the interrogation, the ACC officer quizzed them about the charges and sought their explanations. They have explained their positions on the allegations and placed necessary documents against their statements.
Sources said that Additional Secretary Afzal was quizzed on his role to rehabilitate PDBF's former managing director Mahbubur Rahman, who was removed from the office for his appointment with irregularities and corruption charges during his tenure.
Afazl along with some of his closed associates have been trying to give support to Mahbub. To bring the former MD back, Afzal was interfering with the activities of the micro-credit body, despite having no authority.
The three PDBF officials - Aminul Islam, Anwaruzzaman and Shafiul Islam - were the closed associates of Mahbub. There are hundreds of allegations of corruption, irregularities and embezzlement of public fund against them.
When asked, ACC officer Shahinara Momotaz and the four officials refused to comment.
