Four held in Natore over torching Narsingdi girl
NARSINGDI, June 20: Police have detained four people from Natore in connection with torching a tenth grader of Narsingdi for her denial to involve in drug business.
The arrested are: the victim's mother-in-law Shanti Begum alias Fancy Rani, 45, father-in-law Humayun Mia, 50, sister-in-law Falguni Begum, 20, and husband Sabbir Ahmed Shiplu alias Shibu, 23. They are the residents of Khaserchar Village in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila.
Miraz Uddin, superintendent of police (SP), informed this at a press conference held at his office on Wednesday.
The SP said they arrests were made at Narayanpur Pukurpar area in Natore on Tuesday night.
He also said victim Jannatul Ferdous Jannati, 16, was set ablaze at Hazipur Village in Narsingdi Sadar by her in-laws on April 21.
She later died in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on
On June 15, the victim's father Shariful Islam filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station.
Police detained six persons in this connection on the same night.
Acting on their statements, police raided different districts and later, nabbed them from Natore.
In the case statement, Shariful alleged that his daughter was torched as she refused to help Shiplu and his family in their drug business.
They poured petrol on Jannati and then set her on fire when she was asleep.
Jannati was first admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and later shifted to the burn unit of DMCH where she died on May 30.
