Activities in Payra Power Plant remain suspended for 2nd day
Activities in Payra Thermal Power Plant in Patuakhali remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Thursday following the deaths of two workers- one Chinese and another local.
Earlier on Tuesday, a Bangladeshi worker Shabis Chandra Das died after falling from a boiler. The death led to a clash between Bangladeshi and Chinese workers on the same day that left 10 Bangladeshi and six Chinese workers injured.
The injured were sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where Chinese Jung Yang Sung died.
To avoid further clash, a large number of police and BGB personnel were deployed outside the plant.
Workers trapped inside the plant informed over mobile phone that about 70 percent of Bangali workers went out from the barracks by jumping out the walls last night.
They demanded to administration to take measure so that they can go out through main gate of the plant.
Deputy Commissioner Matiul Islam Chowdhury said a committee was formed to look into matter. The body has been asked to submit report by seven working days, the official added.
Meanwhile, police's three-member probe body formed over incident has started their investigation.
