Ex-MP Rana gets bail in double murder case

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday granted bail to former Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case filed over the killing of two Jubo League leaders in Tangail.
"After the High Court bail there is no bar for Rana to get released from the jail, he was sent to jail on September 18, 2016," his lawyer Rusho Mustafa told journalists.
An HC bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday, declaring a rule issued earlier in this regard, absolute.
The HC on March 6 had granted Rana bail for six months in the case. Following an appeal filed by the government, Justice Md Nuruzzaman of Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court on March 14 had stayed that HC order.
The Appellate Division on April 23 upheld that order and extended the stay till the disposal of the rule.
Jubo League leaders Shamim and Mamun went missing on July 16, 2012, after coming to Tangail town. Mamun's father on July 9, 2013, filed a murder case with Tangail court over the incident.
Three persons Khandaker Zahid, Shahadat Hossain and Hiron Miah, who were arrested by law enforcers on different occasion in connection of the case, confessed to their involvement in that incident. Later, Rana too were shown arrested in the case following the confession made by those three, advocate Rusho said.
