Protest continues at BUET
Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) on Wednesday continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day pressing for their 16-point demand.
They blocked the Zahir Raihan Road in front of Shaheed Minar for four hours and padlocked the
gate of the administrative buildings.
Students have been protesting since June 15 to implement their 16-point demand that includes building a visible Buet gate, recruiting a directorate of student welfare through an upstanding recruitment process, renaming the only female residential hall and improving living standard of dormitories.
Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem, a 4th year student of Civil Engineering Department, told that they had stopped all administrative works and padlocked the gate of all administrative buildings."
After arranging a procession around the campus, they blocked the road.
The students have boycotted all classes and educational activities since Saturday but the blocked the road as there was no response from the administration.
Hundreds of students of all departments and batches gathered to participate in the protest.
They claimed that they tried to contact the Vice Chancellor but couldn't reach him. They vowed to carry on protest until their demands are met.
After weekly leave on Thursday and Friday, they are to stage a sit-in again.
