Ex-AL leader’s son elected Dumuria UZ chairman

KHULNA, June 19: Independent candidate Gazi Ezaz Ahmed (Horse) was unofficially elected Dumuria Upazila Chairman.
He defeated Awami League (AL) backed candidate Mostofa Sarwar (Boat).
Ezaz, son of late Dumuria Upazila chairman and former acting general secretary of Khulna District AL Gazi Abdul Hadi, bagged 81,021 votes while Mostofa Sarwar, former chairman of Gutudia Union Parishad in Dumuria Upazila, got 44,259 votes.
Meanwhile, BNP backed candidate Gazi Abdul Halim was unofficially elected vice chairman. He defeated independent candidate Govinda Ghosh.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Sharmin Akhter Ruma was elected woman vice chairman by defeating Hasna Hena.
Returning Officer and District Senior Election Officer Md Mazharul Islam announced the unofficial result on Tuesday midnight.
On Tuesday, about 59.95 per cent voters out of 2,41,476 of 14 unions under Dumuria Upazila cast their votes amid tight security and peaceful atmosphere.
