Four cops suspended for torturing trader in Bogura
BOGURA, June 16: At least four policemen were temporarily suspended on Saturday for torturing a local trader Sohan Babu Adar, 32, at Sadar Police Station on Thursday and Friday.
The victim Sohan is the son of Saidur Rahman residing in Sultanganj para in the town.
Saidur Rahman said, Sohan, Sathi Banu and her husband Bappi Mia formed a cooperative society named 'Al Falah Bohumukhi' at Goalgari of the town recently. As they were locked in a dispute, Bappi and Sathi alleged to Constable of Sadar Police Station (PS) Enamul Haque, who called Babu to the PS on Thursday at 11pm.
After Babu came to the PS, Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Jabbar and Assistant SI (ASI) Ershad demanded Tk 11 lakh to him. As he denied paying the money, they beat him indiscriminately. They again beat him on Friday noon.
As Babu became ill on Friday at 12am, the cops called Babu's family members, and after taking bond and Tk 20,000, they released him.
The family members rushed him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Acting Police Super (SP) Arifur Rahman Mandal said they temporarily suspended SI Abdul Jabbar, ASI Md Ershad, ASI Niamat Ullah, and Constable Enamul Haque in this connection.
Additional SP (Sadar circle) Sonatan Chakraborty said after investigation, steps will be taken against the four policemen.
