Lightning kills five in Pabna
PABNA, June 16: At least five persons were killed and one injured in separate lightning strikes in the district on Friday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bera Police Station (PS) Shahid Mahmud said when some farmers were harvesting groundnut from a field at Agbagshoa Village under Bharenga Union in the upazila on Friday, rain started and lightning struck them, leaving four farmers injured.
They were rushed to Bera Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Abdul Mannan, 50, son of late Zinat Pramanik, Abdus Salam, 49, son of late Hobi Molla, and Anser Mollick, 47, son of Monser Mollick dead.
The injured is Ershad Molla, 26, son of Yunus Molla of the village.
On the other hand, Inspector (Investigation) of Aminpur PS SM Mainuddin said one Nasima, 12, daughter of Shamser Pramanik of Char Buramara Village was killed by lightning as she went to pluck groundnut from a nearby field.
Meanwhile, Bhangura PS OC Masud Rana said a farmer Shamim Ahmed, 32, son of Haran Sarder of Noubaria Madhyapara Village in Bhangura Upazila was injured by lightning while he was netting fish from a local water body.
He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where he was declared dead.
