Man dies after receiving date-expired saline

NOAKHALI, June 16: A man died after he was administered date-expired IV saline by a village doctor in Sonaimuri Upazila of the district on Thursday.
Deceased Ismail Hossen Khokan was a resident of Mirza Nagar Village under Nateshwar Union in the upazila. He had long been suffering from liver cancer.
Family members said they called village doctor Abul Hashem as Ismail fell sick. The doctor pushed a saline into Ismail's body. He died within an hour of pushing the saline, they alleged.
Later, the victim's family found the saline had crossed its expiry date.
Being informed, police brought the body to Sonaimuri Police Station (PS), said Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge (OC) of the PS.
The accused doctor went into hiding since the incident.
Legal action will be taken against him after an investigation, said the OC.
