Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged the BNP to place their budget proposals in parliament. If the proposals are found to be rational, Sheikh Hasina's government will accept those, he noted.
Quader said this while addressing a press conference organized to hail the proposed budget at the AL President's political office at Dhanmondi in the city. He said BNP's criticism of the budget is a cliche they have been using for over 10 years.
Quader said the AL goverment placed the budget of Tk 5.23 trillion budget for the welfare of the people while the BNP's budget was of Tk 50,000 crore only.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday placed the national budget for FY20 in parliament to 'make a big stride' to materialize the Vision 2021 and implement the agenda for 2030.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the proposed budget is realistic, balanced, pro-people and consistent with the AL's election manifesto.
The AL leader opined the proposed budget is a roadmap of the nation's journey towards the middle-income country by 2021 as well as to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to turn the country into 'Sonar Bangla.'
Terming the budget as time-befitting, Quader said the government is working relentlessly to implement the plans maintaining the continuity and in line with the Delta Plan.
He said a work plan has been taken to bring the private sector under the pension scheme and proposed to give incentives on the remittance of expatriates.
Terming the budget a humanitarian one, the Minister said it has proposed to give allowances to the people with disabilities.
Besides, he said, the budget has allocation for the youths for creating employment opportunities as well as entrepreneurs.
Regarding a comment of BNP, Quader said they (BNP) are falsifying and spreading propaganda. But they have no realization about the extent of the budget given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said the Awami League government has given 11 budgets after assuming power in 2011. And now the economy of the country stands on a strong footing, he added.
In the press conference, among others, AL Joint General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, Organising Secretary Ahmad Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap were present.
