Six killed in four districts
Six persons were killed in separate incidents in four districts- Bogura, Jashore, Munshiganj and Rajshahi, in four days.
BOGURA: Two persons were killed in separate incidents in the district in two days.
A man allegedly chopped his maternal grandmother to death over trifling matter at Chandannagar area under Sonatala Upazila of the district early Friday.
Deceased Josna Rani Roy was the wife of late Upen Chandra Roy of the area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonatala Police Station (PS) Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury said Sukhdeb, 25, locked in an altercation with his grandmother over trifling matter at 2am on Friday. At one stage, he chopped her with a knife, leaving her dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police arrested Sukhdeb, the OC said.
On the other hand, locals beat a man to death suspecting as a cattle lifter at Shekhahati Village under Sariakandi Upazila of the district early Thursday.
Deceased Badrul Islam, 45, was the son of Solaiman Ali of the village.
Police said locals caught Badrul early Thursday, and after beating locked him in a room of Shekhahati Government Primary School.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for an autopsy.
After the incident, Police Super Sabina Yasmin visited the spot.
Sariakandi PS OC Al Amin said the body was handed over to family members.
JASHORE: Rivals knifed a youth to death at Nazir Shankarpur area of the district town on Thursday morning.
Deceased Ferdous, 20, was the son of Azad Hossen of Bejpara Sadek Darogar Mor area of the town. He used to work in a local fish farm.
The deceased's friends Sujan and Antu said Ferdous had an altercation with one Sabbir over stalking a girl. At one stage, Sabbir and his five cohorts chopped him with a knife, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to 250-Bed Jashore General Hospital where died at noon.
Kotwali PS OC Apurba Hasan said police are trying to nab the killers.
MUNSHIGANJ: Two persons were killed in separate incidents in the district on Wednesday.
A hotel trader was knifed to death at Hatlaxmiganj area of the district town on Wednesday morning.
Deceased Shahjalal, 36, was the son of Md Ukil Uddin Molla of the area.
Additional Police Super (Sadar circle) Khandaker Ashfaquzzaman said Shahjalal advised Kabir Hossen, a drug addict and son of Ansar Ali of the area not to take drug. In this connection, they locked in scuffle.
On Wednesday morning, Kabir knifed Shahjalal, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital first but later died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
On the other hand, a woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her husband at Char Bausia Borokandi Village under Bausia Union in Gazaria Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
Deceased Sohana Akhter, 17, was the wife of Saidul Islam, 23, and a student of class eleven at Kalimullah Degree College in the upazila.
The deceased's uncle Ali Ahammad said Sohana, daughter of a day-labourer Sohel was married to Saidul Islam, son of Md Aziz Mia of Bausia Nayakandi Village of the union on March 29 last. During the marriage, Saidul was given Tk 1.5 lakh. Later, it was known that Saidul was a drug addict. For collecting drug money, he used to torture Sohana.
He also said Sohana came to her father's house about a week back. On Wednesday morning, he demanded money to Sohana. As she denied paying the money, Saidul strangulated her to death and hanged the body with the room's ceiling to prove it a suicide. Later, he fled away.
Gazaria PS OC Harun-or-Rashid said the victim's father filed a case accusing Saidul on Wednesday night.
RAJSHAHI: Miscreants killed a local BNP leader at Ashraf's brick kiln area beside Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway in Puthia Upazila of the district on Monday night.
Deceased Nurul Islam, 55, was the son of late Kalu Sardar of Halhalia Village in Jiupara Union of the upazila. He was vice-president of union BNP and former president of Motor Workers' Union.
His family alleged that rivals killed him.
In this connection, supporters of Nurul Islam attacked on opposition leader and General Secretary of the Union Abdur Rahman Potol.
The angry workers also blocked Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway on Monday.
Later, police brought the situation under control after half an hour. Addition police were deployed at different places of the highway.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Tuesday.
