17 ‘robbers’ arrested in Dhaka
Police have arrested 17 suspected robbers of three groups known as ‘Lungi Bahini’ from several places in Dhaka.
Superintendent of Dhaka district police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman confirmed the matter at a press briefing at Savar Model Police Station on Friday noon.
They were accused of abducting a police sub-inspector, snatching, robbery and murder. Police recovered snatched arms and goods from the robbers, said the SP.
They used to commit robbery around Savar, Ashulia, Dohar, Nawabganj and Munshiganj including Dhaka being divided in three groups consisting 50 members.
However leader of a group, Ripon Hossain and another group leader Mota Babul Miah were killed in a reported gunfight in Keraniganj on June 8, and in Ashulia on June, 10 respectively.
The police superintendent said police found information about ‘Lungi Bahini’ while investigating a robbery case in Nawabganj upazila on May, 23.
They were also accused of abducting a sub-inspector of DSB of Dhaka district police and robbing police motorcycle in 2017.
