EC directs to withdraw Joydebpur OC

The Election Commission has directed to withdraw Gazipur's Joydebpur Police Station officer in-charge Md Asaduzzaman.

Gazipur police superintendent Shamsunnahar said they received an order in this regard from the EC on Wednesday night.

Abu Nasar Uddin, returning officer of Gazipur Sadar upazila election and additional deputy commissioner, said they received the order around 8:00pm.

Abu Nasar said they received a letter from the Election Commission last night containing Asaduzzaman's withdrawal order and to replace another police official in his post.

OC Asaduzzaman allegedly threatened incumbent upazila chairman and BNP leader Izadur Rahman Milon to pull out of the coming election to Sadar upazila parishad. Izadur is an independent candidate in the polls.

Following the threat, Izadur Rahman has recently appealed to the EC and the district police superintendent seeking withdrawal of the OC.

Election to Sadar upazila parishad in Gazipur is scheduled to be held on June 18.
