Passengers count extra bus fare in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR, June 12: People, who came to the district on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, are counting extra fare charged by bus service providers on the way to their respective workplace in Dhaka, Chattogram and other districts.
People have expressed their anger as the authority concerned is not taking any step to solve the problem.
Meanwhile, the bus service providers claimed that though the fare has been hiked to a bit, there are sufficient buses to transport passengers to different routes.
They also informed that the buses are returning from other districts without passengers.
While visiting, this correspondent found that the bus owners are charging extra fare from the passengers going to Dhaka.
Of them, Econo Service is taking Tk 500 to 600 instead of regular Tk 400 from each passenger, Dhaka Express taking Tk 550 instead of Tk 400, Jonaki Service taking Tk 450 instead of Tk 300, Miami AC Service is taking Tk 850 instead of Tk 500, and Royel AC Service taking the same as Miami AC Service.
Besides, Chattogram-bound Shahi Service is taking Tk 450 instead of Tk 300, and Jonaki Service taking Tk 450 instead of Tk 300.
The victim passengers said they suffer much as the fare is hiked during Eid every year.
Parvez, a passenger of Econo Service, alleged that he travels by the service regularly when it takes Tk 400, but for Eid, they are taking Tk 550, which is not desirable.
Another passenger Enamul Haque of Royel AC Service alleged they are taking extra fare which is illogical.
President of District Bus-Minibus Owners' Association Nurnabi Chowdhury said he does not know about the bus fare hike. The government has banned taking extra fare. It should be followed by all.
Deputy Commissioner Anjan Chandra Pal said they instructed bus owners and labourers not to take extra fare. If they still take extra fare, DC office will take action.
