Nine killed in road mishaps in five districts

Nine persons were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in five districts- Bogura, Natore, Laxmipur, Feni, and Satkhira, in two days.
BOGURA: Four persons were killed and two injured in separate road accidents in the district on Sunday and Monday.
Two were killed and two got injured at Sherpur Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The injured were admitted to Bogura Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (BSZRMCH).
The deceased were identified as Farid Uddin, 35, day labourer, and son of Shahadat Hossain of Charbheli Village of Shahjahanpur Upazila of the district and Dulali Begum, 30, wife of Shafiqul Islam of Kazir Chaora Village under Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Police Station (PS) Humayun Kabir said that a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Lalmonirhat reached Dashmail at Sherpur Upazila on Monday at 6am. When the bus reached there, a truck hit the bus from the back.  The passenger Dulali sitting on the back died on the spot.
The injured two other passengers were taken to BSZRMCH. The driver of the truck fled away and the police seized the bus.
On the other hand, a Nilphamari-bound passenger bus had a collision with a truck coming from the opposite side on Bogura-Rangpur Highway at Chonka of Sherpur Upazila at 11pm.
Labourer Farid, while reconstructing the highway, was crushed under the wheels of the bus.  Police seized the truck and the bus. The driver and the helpers fled away.
Deceased Farid was the son of Shahadat Hossain of Charbheli Village under Shahajahanpur Upazila of the district.
Earlier, on Sunday night, two siblings were killed when a buffalo-laden vehicle fell into a ditch in Nandigram Upazila of the district.
The deceased were identified as Jalal Uddin, 55, and his brother Habibur Rahman, hailing from Syedpur Village in the upazila.
The accident took place when the two brothers were returning home from Rajshahi after purchasing buffalos from a cattle market. The vehicle, locally called as Bhotbhoti, plunged into a roadside watery-ditch in Omarpur area at about 11pm as its driver lost control over steering, leaving the siblings dead on the spot.
Nandigram PS OC Shawkat Kabir confirmed the news.
NATORE: A man was killed and four others were injured as a pickup van crushed them on Natore-Pabna highway near Ahmedpur Bazaar area under Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday.
Deceased Dewan Ali, 55, was the son of Siraj Uddin of Awrail Village in the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Highway Police Station Shafiqul Islam confirmed the news and said, Dewan Ali including four others was going to the bazaar for selling vegetables when a pickup van crushed them, leaving Dewan Ali and four others injured.
Later, he died at Natore Sadar Hospital. The injured were released after giving first aid. Police seized the pickup van but its driver managed to flee.
LAXMIPUR: A man and his nephew were killed in an accident on Dhaka-Ramganj Highway in front of Jugi Bari area in Ramganj Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Md Sumon Hossen, 38, son of late Abdul Mannan of Ayenagar Village in the upazila and a local trader, and his nephew Tamim Hossen, 14.
Local sources said the deceased were returning home riding a motorcycle after closing their shop at 8:30pm on Sunday. When they reached the said area, a nosimon (locally made vehicle) collided head-on with the bike, leaving Tamim dead on the spot and Sumon Hossen seriously injured. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Ramganj Police Station Mohammad Anwar Hossen confirmed the news.
FENI: A mother and a daughter were killed in a collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw near a rest house at Lemua on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Sunday evening.  The deceased were identified as Johora Munni, 36, wife of Liakat Ali of Gopal Union under Chagolnaiyya Upazila of the district and her daughter Faria Akhter, 16.
Union Parishad (UP) Chairman of Lemua Mosharraf Uddin Nasim said that the family of the deceased was heading towards Terbaria Village under Lemua Union of Sadar Upazila in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
When the auto-rickshaw came near the rest house, a Chattogram-bound passenger bus of Unique Paribahan hit the CNG.
Five passengers including the driver got seriously injured.
Later, locals rescued them and took them to Feni Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared the mother dead.
While taking the daughter to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, she died.  The rest injured were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Mohipal Highway Police OC Abdul Awal said that the police recovered the affected vehicles.
SATKHIRA: Five people including three policemen were injured as a bus hit a pickup van at Debhata Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The injured policemen are Kaliganj PS OC Hafizur Rahman, Constable Bakhtiar and Driver Amit.
Station Inspector of Kaliganj PS SM Azizur Rahman said that a bus hit a pickup van which was carrying police personnel at Jagannathpur at around 10.30am, leaving five people injured.
The injured persons were taken to Kaliganj Health Complex.
