Illegal drug trading increases crimes at Begumganj
BEGUMGANJ, NOAKHALI, June 1: Illegal drug trading is going on in full swing at different points in the upazila. Attacks and killings are happening over the control of the trade.
Drug traders built safe haven in different places of Choumohani and other places of the upazila.
The easy availability of drugs increased crime in youths in one hand and the misconducts of the drug addicts made the life of the locals miserable in another hand.
Locals alleged that the political influential persons are involved in this connection.
Yaba, hemp, alcohol, phensedyl and other kinds of drugs are now at the hand of the villagers. Women are also getting engaged in drug dealing besides men.
Police recently arrested a few drug traders and drug addicts and sent them to court. They came out on bail and restarted the trading.
According to different intelligence branches, police and local sources, the drugs are transported by bus, microbus and other mediums through Chowddagram and Miabazaar areas of Cumilla District. These vehicles cross the border of Cumilla and enter Begumganj.
Besides being sold locally, these drugs are supplied to different points of the district.
The safe havens of the drug dealers are located at Golabaria of Chowmuhani town, Purba Bazaar (Feni Road), Rail Station area, near Atiabari Bridge, Takkapol, Miarpol, and north and south slum areas of Begumganj Pole, Ramjanbibi Bazaar, Peshkar Market of Dakkhin Nazirpur, Mohabbatpur, Muradpur, Shurergo Pole, Dokanghar, Shetubhanga, Zamidarhaat, and Kazir Haat of Kutubpur.
Besides, it was alleged that 'drug lord' Abdul Matin alias Batia in Auto Rice Mills area and CNG station on Kazinagar Road and his brother Abdus Sattar are dealing with drugs in public.
Drug addicts on motorcycle and CNG auto-rickshaw from different places come to the areas and buy and consume drugs in public. This creates fear among the public.

Women and traders are more vulnerable to snatching there.

Sometimes in drives, police arrest drug traders and snatchers. But they come out on bail and resume illegal activities.
