MYMENSINGH, May 26: The family members of murdered Juba League (JL) leader Rezaul Karim Russel demanded immediate arrest of and punishment for his killers on Sunday.
"We want nothing but the capital punishment for the killers, but it is a matter of great regret that the prime suspects are still at large," said the victim's father Jalal at a press conference in Mymensingh Press Club on Sunday afternoon.
It is mentionable that a group of assailants stabbed Russel to death, 34, near Mrittunjoy School in the city on May 14.  The deceased was identified as Russel, a member of JL district unit and former vice-president of BCL of the district.
Victim's father Jalal of Horipur Char Village in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila filed a murder case against 14 persons with Kotwali Police Station (PS) later that day.
According to the case, Abdullah Al Mamun Arif, former president of BCL, Mymensingh unit, is named as the prime accused.
The other accused are Rana and Devit Rony from the city and Badal from Char Gobindapur Village in Sadar Upazila.
Victim's father also said at a press conference that police arrested three youths so far for their alleged involvement in the killing.
The arrested are Mobarak Hossain, 25, Azizul Islam, 33, and Netai, 30, of the district.
They have confessed their involvement in Russel's murder, said Sub-Inspector (SI) of Detective Branch (DB) of police and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Akram Hossain.
The victim's father also said that he did politics with Bangabandhu. He along with his family members has met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to seek justice.
He also sought intervention of the Prime Minister in this regard.
"But the prime suspects were not arrested yet and we are being threatened by unknown people to withdraw the case or face Russel's consequences," alleged the victim's elder sister Jesmin Ara Poly.
"Russel was involved with BCL, but no quarter of the party came forward so far to support us when we are passing most critical time of our life," Poly further said in tears.
Since the killing, the family members of the deceased and local people are continuing their protest.
On May 19, they brought out procession in the town and submitted memorandums to Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Inspector General (Mymensingh Range) of Police, Deputy Commissioner, and Superintendent of Police of the district.
Jesmin Ara Poly read out the written statement at the press conference.
Among others, Vice-President of Mymensingh Press Club Md Nowab Ali, Russel's uncles Habibur Rahman Hobi, Mofazzol Hossain and Ashraf Ali; and Russel's younger brother Anwar Hossain Limon were present at the press conference.
