Khaleda challenges govt move to shift trial venue

A petition has been filed challenging the legality of the government’s move to shift BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's trial venue to Keraniganj new central jail from the on one in Dhaka.

Khaleda Zia's lawyer Kaiser Kamal filed the petition with the High Court on Sunday.

An HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice M Khairul Alam set Monday (May 27) for hearing the writ petition.

bdnews24.com adds: The government on May 12 issued a notice which said that the trial would be continued in a makeshift court in Keraniganj.

The petition contends that the notification violates articles 17 and 31 of the Constitution along with sections 9(1) and (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
