Govt to distribute 2,645 tonnes of rice in Khulna before Eid
KHULNA, May 25: The government will distribute 2,645 tonnes of rice among 1,76,332 VGF (vulnerable group feeding) card holders from May 28 in nine upazilas and two pourasabhas of the district ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Last year, the government distributed 1,746 tonne of rice among 1, 74,666 VGF cardholders in the upazilas and pourasabhas of the district before Eid-ul-Fitr and 1,746 tonnes of rice among 1,74,666 card holders before Eid-ul-Azha.
The authorities will distribute 15-kg VGF rice to each of the beneficiary families allocated for last week, which is five-kg more than prior monthly allocation for each family in the previous year.
Khulna District Relief and Disaster Management Officials said a total of 599 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 35,500 card holders in Dakop upazila, 522 tonnes among 32,226 card holders in Batiaghata upazila, 286 tonnes among 18,664 card holders in Dighalia upazila, 384 tonnes among 28,433 card holders in Rupsha upazila, 70 tonnes among 4,941 card holders inf Fultala upazila, 208 tonnes among 10,822 card holders in Koyra upazila, 237 tonnes among 13,690 card holders in Paikgachha upazila, 79 tonnes among 7,959 card holders in Terokhada upazila and 184 tonnes among 16,395 card holders in Dumuria upazila.
Besides, over 30 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 3,081 card holders in Chalna pourasabha and over 46 tonnes rice will be distributed among 4,621 card holders in Paikgachha pourasabha.
The government has distributed the VGF rice before Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha every year, said Director (VGF) of District Relief and Disaster Management Department Azizul Islam Zoadder today while talking to this correspondent.
