Former election commissioner (rtd) M Sakhawat Hossain on Thursday in an instant reaction to the results of Indian election attributed four reasons to Narendra Modi's landslide win.
BJP, he said, rode the waves of four crucial issues. Firstly, the opposition failed to point out BJP and its alliance's weaknesses to the masses.
Secondly BJP and its alliances could successfully spread the venom of Hindutva card without facing any strong resistance from the opposition or any forum.
Thirdly, the wrong
politics of Trinamool Congress that had wiped out the leftists parties from West Bengal during the Mamata Banerjee's tenure.
The fourth point is Modi's extra-ordinary charismatic leadership especially his strong words of vengeance after the Pulwama attack of Pakistan and after which India's attack on Balakot put him in the place of a saviour for India.
Though there are allegations of irregularities in West Bengal through the manipulation of EVMs and election campaign was stopped there 96 hours before the scheduled time they couldn't tarnish his image, said Sakhawat.
"We also witnessed some note of descent from a commissioner for the first time in an election in India but it failed to raise any question locally or internationally because of the electoral process of India," he observed.
Interestingly the BJP candidates obtained almost all seats in bordering areas that might increase tension there and may lead extremist rightist parties there to stand in the way of communal harmony.
Finally, Sakhawat hoped as Modi is more powerful his government would address the water-sharing issue with Bangladesh.
