Demo demands release of kidnapped AL leader
Local leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) staged demonstrations in different areas of Bandarban district demanding release of abducted party leader Chothoyai Mong.
The demonstrations were held in the district headquarters and different upazilas during the period of Wednesday night to Thursday morning.
Chothoyai Mong, vice president of Bandarban Municipality, was abducted by armed men from his home in Ujimukh Para under Bandarban municipality on Wednesday night.
Mecha Ching Marma, wife of the victim, said a group of 8/10 armed men stormed their house at night when they were watching TV. They picked up Chothoyai Mong and took him to jungle after slapping him.
As the news spread, AL leaders and activists took to the street in the district headquarters and different upazilas and stated demonstration demanding his release.
District unit AL president Kya Shoilha, general secretary Islam Baby, were also present in the protests.
They blamed Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) for the abduction and gave the JSS a 24-hour ultimatum to release Chothoyai Mong.
Meanwhile, joint forces of police and army have started a rescue operation, said police superitendant Zakir Hossain Mazumder.
Four Awami League leaders and activists were killed after being kidnapped from different areas of the district this month.
In all the cases, Awami League indicated JSS link for the murder.
