United Nations will honour 12 fallen peacekeepers of Bangladesh on Friday, the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will lay a wreath to honour all peacekeepers who lost their lives since 1948. He will preside over a ceremony in which the Dag Hammarskjold Medal will be awarded posthumously to 119 military, police and civilian peacekeepers, who laid down their lives in 2018 and early 2019, an UN statement said.
In a video message, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said they honour more than a million men and women who have served as UN peacekeepers since their first mission in 1948.
"We remember the more than 3,800 personnel who paid the ultimate price".
Twelve Bangladeshi peacekeepers will be among those honoured, it added.
